As one who experienced the '60s in full flower, so to speak, and in San Francisco no less, it's a bit difficult to admit that I like to keep
an eye on my possessions ... well, on some of them anyway.
I've got three old, painstakingly restored motorcycles in the garage of our house in the country. I really love looking at those bikes but
as our child gets older and her social calendar becomes increasingly more complicated, we spend less and less time in the country. The
solution was to install a camera in the garage. The camera takes snapshots that are automatically uploaded to my Web site, thereby allowing me
to look at my favorite toys from anywhere in the wired world ... any time I want.
This solution doubles as a 24/7, low-cost watchman that never takes a break or calls in sick. All the snapshots are stored on the computer so
if something odd, unusual, or downright ugly ever happens there will be a time- and date-stamped photo record.
While I still dream of the good old days on Hippy Hill in Golden Gate Park, I sleep comfortably knowing that an unblinking eye is watching
my old motorcycles.
